For more information, please refer to Final exam information Click here for more information on CPD points Prerequisites: For those new to the industry, Construction Fundamentals or Residential Construction Site Management must be taken before enrolment in this class. This prior knowledge is necessary as students need to have an understanding of construction and construction terminology for this course. Explore basic orthographic concepts and methods, and apply them to plans for single and multi-family housing projects. Deepen your familiarity with different types of drawings and their various levels of detail; sharpen your understanding of symbols, drawing styles, specifications and notes; and learn to organize drawings into complete, appropriate sets of plans. Plan-reading Principles Understanding the Parts Orthographic, Isometrics & Dimensions Standard Residential Drawings Drawings Groups Plan-reading Skills Learning Outcomes By the end of this course, you will be able to: Define drawings, plot plans, sections, and scales. Define sketching and describe when sketching may be used. Define area and volume and explain how they are calculated. Describe the use of symbols in combination with one another and with other elements. Define the floor plan and explain what a floor plan shows. Define elevations and explain their place in the complete set of prints. Explain the relationship of dimensions to plan views, elevations, and details. Explain the role of written specifications/scopes of work. Grade slip and/or survey plans, engineer’s drawings and letters, and manufacturer’s drawings and information (including roof truss, floor joist, beams, window/exterior door schedule, cabinets etc.)
