Navigating the Path to Higher STEPS: Insights from Kelowna's Energy Performance Data

Description
What are the most common assemblies? What will it take to make todays homes reach step 4 and 5? How much will builders need to change to reach the Zero carbon step code? This session, in partnership with City of Kelowna and Bernhardt Contracting will take a deep dive into the most cost effective trade-offs you can make when designing and building a high performance home.
This presentation utilizes city-specific, Kelowna based data & case studies of real world homes. We will take a deep dive into the details of cost effective solutions for steps 4 and 5 as well as the Zero carbon step code.
Using real-world energy model data gathered by the City of Kelowna over the past two years from all homes built in the area, this session will dive into the details of high performance homes. If you built homes in the city during that time this data will include your homes.
Learning outcomes
- Be more comfortable with the concepts of Zero carbon step code
- Have a good understanding of techniques used to reach step 3 currently and those that would be required for higher steps
- Have a good understanding of systems and options that will qualify for higher steps of the Zero carbon step code.
- Be able to articulate examples of homes and systems that can reach higher steps.
